My Escapes Malaysia My First Malaysian Escape Kuala Lumpur Contrastful Kuala Lumpur Merdeka Square
Merdeka Square
Dataran Merdeka is the main square of Kuala Lumpur.
No trip to KL is complete without visiting this place.
Luckily, my hotel near Masjid Jamek was close, so I went out to the Merdeka Square on the first evening.
...little did I know in the beginning that I will eventually explore so many other places that time won't allow me to return to the Merdeka Square.
At least, I immortalized it in several photographs, just before the Sun went down...

The Merdeka Square is the venue where they hold the annual Merdeka Parade - on the National Day of Malaysia, which is on August 31st.
My visit was in June, by the way...
Some guy's car broke down here...

I should also mention the high importance of the surrounding buildings. These are some of KL's top travel attractions.
One of them is the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, the old St. Mary's Cathedral - a tiny Anglican church built in 1894.
A single motorbike passes through... for now!

This is an enthralling place. I was fascinated with it. Most of my photos below are basically variations on the same theme - the Sultan Abdul Samad Building.
The traffic in front of it and the angles give a different feel to each photo.
I think they're all reflections of different nuances of the same experience - visiting the Dataran Merdeka.
Traffic can get quite intense in this part of the city...

Zooming in on the contrast... That's the Maybank skyscraper on the right end!
My Citin Masjid Jamek Hotel was behind the modern OCBC building (the wide one) seen in the center.

Look at the sheer size of that tree! Cars are like Matchbox toy cars underneath!

The LRT train's next station is Masjid Jamek (where I stayed on those days)
