My Escapes Portugal Lisbon Short Stop-over in Lisbon ERJ-145 Flight Back to Barcelona

ERJ-145 Flight Back to Barcelona

January 23, 2014
July 5, 2014

Jetted back to Barcelona on an Embraer ERJ-145 and admired the beautiful rainbow below us until turbulences shook us heavily!

This time things at the Portela Airport went smoother.

It was funny that after our airport bus passed several medium size TAP jets, it stopped near an Embraer ERJ-145 dwarf!

The entire bus exploded in laughter!

That tiny bird has just under 30 m. One could say it's not longer than two coach buses...

We had to board that "too small to be true" metal bird bearing PGA - Portugália Airlines livery...

By the way, PGA is a subsidiary of TAP! Flies on regional and short-haul routes. Like: Lisbon - Barcelona, Lisbon - Porto.

Ah well, we managed to fit in!

The ERJ-145's have usually 45 seats (depending on configuration the number may vary).

After having found my place, it felt like a small private jet. Looked like one, felt like one, just that there were so many people aboard and it didn't feel luxurious at all!

I couldn't even stand up straight. And just a single person was able to walk on the aisle at one time!

This was a single aisle jet with a single seat row on the left and a two seat row on the right hand's side.
I sat in the "lonely row" on the left. Luckily I had more privacy, but very little space for elbows and feet.

The plane looked soooooo used... and dirty.
My reclining table was shaking and I just couldn't rely on keeping it stable - I had to put my knees under it to make it hold still.

By the way - this was my FIRST EVER flight on a (Brazilian-made) Embraer ERJ-145! Quite an experience... and I'd love to repeat it.

The small, sharp-shaped long plane took off like a fighter jet.
It must have had a good power to weight ratio.

I also had the luck of enjoying my first rainbow during a flight. The splendid colours showed up below a short while after taking off from Lisbon...

Rainbow above Lisbon

Beautiful rainbow below us...

Anyway... the "fun" was yet to begin.

Two young German guys were sitting on right hand's side...
Right after one of them went to the basket (the plane's toilet), we got shaken violently by turbulences. It lasted about a minute or so and my orange juice almost took off from my plastic glass...

Immediately after the shake was over, the seated remaining German guy looked at me shaking with laughter and mimicking what must have happened to the other bloke inside the toilet...

While above central Spain, I noticed a wicked cloud formation through my window...

Clouds...

Mushroom cloud? The German guys freaked out a bit as they rushed to see it through my window...
