My Escapes Portugal Another Lovely Trip to Portugal! Lisbon Dipping Into Lisbon Lisbon's Best Viewpoints
Lisbon's Best Viewpoints
Because I love city skylines, I had to see Lisbon from higher ground again.
I recommend you 4 good spots for admiring the city's panorama.
The viewpoints I will mention here are all located in different parts of Lisbon, so views from up there will all be from different perspectives.
This year, besides the São Jorge Fortress, I was able to visit the remaining 3.

#1 The Miraduro São Pedro de Alcântara
This viewpoint is found in Bairro Alto, in a green park area - it is essentially a terrace with green vegetation.
Wide enough to accommodate many people, there are benches and... luckily less visitors wander out here, so you don't have to worry about big crowds.

From this viewpoint, you have great views in the southeast, east and northeast direction. Partial view to the north and very poor towards the south. No view in any other direction.
#2 The São Jorge Fortress
One of the best high-situated spots for viewing Lisbon's general panorama.
You will have to walk up across western Alfama to get there.
What I saw from the fortress in 2008 can be found here. Due to lack of time and tight schedule, I could not repeat the experience this year.

The fortress is a great spot for viewing central Lisbon. So, the views towards the west are excellent, also towards southwest and northwest. Southern- and northern Lisbon are barely visible.
#3 The Santa Justa Elevator
It's a short stroll away from any point of central Lisbon. It stands opposite to the fortress.
The old elevator itself is a beautiful attraction and so it the panorama of Lisbon.

Expect dense crowds. Especially from before noon until early evening. During the afternoon is the peak time.
The best views are towards east, northeast, north and southeast.
Standing at only 45 m, this viewpoint is a great place for contemplating central Lisbon - Baixa.
#4 Miraduro Portas do Sol
Found in Alfama, it offers wonderful views in the respective district.
From there, you can admire splendid views of Alfama and Rio Tejo's bay.
It's a marvelous place, even if the area that you can view is limited to a portion of Alfama. The sights will charm you.

At Miraduro Portas do Sol, I came across talented street musicians, admired the architecture around and I also photographed Lisbon's beautiful old trams pass by.
