My Escapes Portugal Another Lovely Trip to Portugal! Porto Exploring Vintage Porto Livraria Lello & Irmão

Livraria Lello & Irmão

The old book store is another one of Porto's top attractions.
The stunning interior Art Nouveau architecture is what makes it so special. Being a fan of this architectural style, it was a "must visit" for me.

The Livraria Lello & Irmão is also known as Livraria Chardron and it's an old book store established in 1919.

Lonely Planet considered it the 3rd most beautiful book store in the World.

The Art Nouveau facade is beautiful, but the interior is a lot more alluring.

I was very enthusiastic about visiting and photographing it, but there were restrictions - at the time of my visit we were not allowed to take photos inside. Too bad!

I already had my Aveiro day trip scheduled for the remaining full day plus a few other activities, so I never got the chance to climb the slope again and revisit the library in the early house (when photographing would have been allowed - between 9-10 AM).

Anyway, having seen the interior, I've found it somewhat lagging behind what we see on photos.

For example: the stairs were of a more pale red and it was so crowded, I could not enjoy a good view at all.

The decorations of the ceiling were awe-inspiring.

It's fairly small inside, a lot smaller than I imagine.

My conclusion is that photographs paint a much nicer image of the old library, which in reality is a fairly small place with less vivid colours than on the edited photos, filled with books blocking the view, let alone the dozens of visitors and book buyers.
