My Escapes Portugal Another Lovely Trip to Portugal! Estoril Estoril Walkaround Not Much Sandy Beach at Estoril...

Not Much Sandy Beach at Estoril...

September 11, 2014

Estoril is an intriguing place with beautiful palaces, luxury villas filling entire districts. And, it's a popular beach destination in the Lisbon area.
But: those beaches are soooo tiny!

As beautiful as it is, Estoril lacks a large beach. I expected at least one longer strip of beach. Instead, I encountered tiny crowded strips of sand.

Bascially, the Praia do Tamariz and the Praia da Poça are the only beaches that are REALLY part of Estoril and, they're pretty small.

Of course, there is the larger Praia da Conçeicão, which is westwards, part of Cascais, rather.

To get there from Estoril, you will have to go past the Monte Estoril railway station. It's "down there", below some tall cliffs.

Ash me baby one more time!

The beaches of Estoril and Cascais are rather rocky. Especially at Estoril's Tamariz beach I encountered flat rocks (similar to the ones I saw last year at Benidorm in Spain) and there even were vortexes in the water.

Quite hard rocky coast... not the place for jumping

If you choose to visit Portugal, take my advice: don't miss out on beautiful Estoril!

If you're more enthusiastic about Portuguese beaches, then check my two trips to Costa da Caparica (the first one and the second one).
