My Escapes Turkey Istanbul Short Stay in Istanbul Walking Around in the Sultanahmet Area

Walking Around in the Sultanahmet Area

May 30, 2014
November 8, 2014

Sultanahmet is the most exciting part of the Golden Horn area. It is in fact the old town or, the core of the old town, to be fair enough...

In the Sultanahmet area you will find the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque as well and, the famous and revered Topkapi Palace.

It is an amazing place for taking a stroll. And you might even want to Turkish cuisine's delicacies. It's a cheap place to eat, when compared to Western Europe's or North America's prices.

Within the Sultanahmet area you can simply walk, but the tram connects it best with nearby points of interest.

I simply walked out to it from the Gülhane area, where I stayed at Pamphylia Hotel

You might come across buses and trams bearing inscriptions/signs saying "Topkapi". No, that is not the Topkapi Palace, but a further situated district of Istanbul (which strangely has the same name).

Those vehicles don't go to the Topkapi Palace, in fact - if you board them, they will take you far out to a distant zone of the immense city.

This is a misunderstanding trap that I myself almost fell into, when trying catch a bus on the Asian side.

I advise you to reach Sultanahmet and from there you can get to the Topkapi Palace easier by tram or, on your own two feet.
