My Escapes Portugal Another Lovely Trip to Portugal! Lisbon In Lisbon Again Parque das Nações and [...]
Parque das Nações and My Cable Car Ride
Lisbon's futuristic Parque das Nações was almost entirely built for the Expo '98 World's Fair and today, it's a trendy recreational area on Rio Tejo's bank.
So, I went out there to explore and I took a nice cable car trip too!
The top things to see at the Parque das Nações are the Oriente Station nearby, the , the Oceanarium, the Vasco da Gama Bridge and Tower, Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre, the Atlantic Pavilion (huge disc-shaped silvery building), the Interactive Science Museum (Pavilhão do Conhecimento), but you might also fancy an aerial tramway (cable car) trip.
I did the latter and I floated in excess of 10 minutes, traveling just at the edge of the Parque das Nações, along the river bank.
The one-way ride cost me 3.95 EUR and as I was photographing, I inclined the cabin (by mistake), which then started swinging like crazy - but I managed to counter-balance it.

It is interesting to visit this part of Lisbon, but only if you've seen the central area already.
It's a bit cold, there aren't many people - there could be much more, considering the infrastructure.
And, as it happens with these futuristic places, they feel a bit overdone and forgotten.
There's some green area and plenty of modern art here and there. But it still felt cold, grey, utopian.
Art is supposed to brighten up the atmosphere. But I still believe these cold hypermodern places require a lot more than just that. They simply, barely have life in them.
I was about to take a ride with a cabin all the way to the Vasco da Gama skyscraper

Futuristic environment, but cold. More people and more colours would have felt better.
