My Escapes Spain Costa Blanca Summer Heat Benidorm My Benidorm Cocktail Tour

My Benidorm Cocktail Tour

December 26, 2014
September 24, 2017

The mind-blowing Costa Blanca has a profusion of cocktail bars and swanky bars. So, while I was staying in in Benidorm, I took the time to do the cocktail tour - here's my review...

Benidorm's hot sunshine and the aerodynamical Latina dorises at the beaches make the man yearn to cool down a bit.

And because I've always been a fan of cocktails, I decided to hit the bars..

A cocktail's price generally varies between 5-7 EUR. On average one will sell for around 6-6.50 EUR.

#1 Daiquiri da Fresa (Strawberry Daiquiri)

The simple daiquiri is based on rum, lemon-juice (most often lime) and sugar.
Mine was a pinkish-red strawberry daiquiri overflowing with sugar and shredded ice.

I bought this one for a mere 5 EUR in central Benidorm at a cocktail bar called Caliente Bar at Calle Alameda 16. Conveniently located in central Benidorm.
Loved their cocktails, friendly staff, you go have a drink there too!

#2 Piña Colada

My very top favourite cocktail is the piña colada.

Originally a Puerto Rican drink, it's one of the most popular cocktails in bars around the World. And I simply adore it!

You can't imagine what I wouldn't do for a piña colada, especially on a hot summer day like this one in Benidorm.

This was probably the best Piña Colada I ever had

OK, so the good-old piña colada...

...another rum-based cocktail made with: rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice...

Alluring!

But did you know that the piña colada is considered the national drink of Puerto Rico?

Have yours in the shade of palm trees, on a hot beach day, if you can. There's nothing like the magic around that.

One day I'll swear I'll travel to Puerto Rico and have one of these each evening!

Besides the cocktail, there even are thicker (more dense) versions of the drink - liqueurs.

Although cocktails are seductive delicacies and they slide well, let's not forget - one can easily get drunk.

Having one of these is a slippery slide...

I bought the one you can see above at the La Mar Salà and it cost me 6 EUR.

But wait... there's more about my favourite drink.

There's actually a song called "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" from 1979. Believe it or not, I've found out about it recently - accidentally.

Coincidence?
I'm Escape Hunter and I take escape trips. And I'm nuts about piña colada.

#3 Mojito

The good-old Mojito...

I don't know how often I've had this drink at various parties and meetings... It's a nice drink, but a piña colada is way above on my list.

Mojito with ice

Ice-ice baby! I ordered a mojito and I got ice with mojito!

This mojito (again) has more ice than mojito!

It's terribly annoying that at times they serv you the ice rather than the cocktail.

Have I ordered a glass of shredded ice?

I can recall my other mojito experience years ago, in Venice. That one was indeed, far away from a Mojito, actually...

Luckily, my Benidorm mojito actually was indeed a mojito with a big "M".

Jut like that Skyscraper's "M"-shape (read the post, if you don't know what I mean).

Mojito's aren't supposed to be served with a tonne of ice. It's just the bad habit of certain cocktail-mixers.

This one was still great, on a hot-hot summer day! One of my last day in Benidorm...

I was already overwhelmed with nostalgia.

I can't help mentioning what this cocktail makes me think of...

In my childhood years there was a song called "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice:
