My Escapes Spain Costa Blanca Summer Heat Benidorm Hungarian Style Pizza at the "Pancho el Húngaro"
Hungarian Style Pizza at the "Pancho el Húngaro"
As I was wandering in central Benidorm, acheing for a bite following a hot day at the beach, I came across a Hungarian restaurant, which had Hungarian-style pizza on their menu.
Having already tasted the Chicago-style pizza on an airplane earlier, I was anxious to taste the Hungarian twist of the famous Italian food.
The Hungarian restaurant was called "Pancho El Húngaro" and it's maintained by a family from Hungary.
Of course, their menus contain a vast array of Hungarian dishes, but I wasn't in for the gulyás (goulash), but the spicy Hungarian pizza.
Admire my meal below...

By the way...
"Pancho" was the nickname of the World-famous Hungarian soccer player, Ferenc Puskás, who is considered to have been the best football player in the World. Just look his stats up and you'll remain jaw-open.
Puskás was way higher than Palé, Ronaldinho, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or... just anyone you could ever think of.
He was a member of the Golden Team (Hungary's national soccer team) and he also played for Real Madrid.
At the "Pancho" restaurant, I ordered my pizza called Pizza a la Húngara with a humble beer and the total cost me 12 EUR.
Hungarian foods are supposed to be spicy. Pretty much like Mexican food, but in a different way.
I adore the red spicy paprika-containing Hungarian sausages and salamis, but this pizza had chorizo on it instead. It's obvious that this was easier to obtain in Spain. Hungary is faraway, so obtaining the ingredients from there would be rather complicated.
Red onions are also popular with various Hungarian foods, so there they were - the red onion slices on the pizza.
The Hungarian pizza a nice meal, a new experience. A combination between the Italian pizza and Hungarian cuisine's tastes.
Here's the Pancho El Húngaro Facebook fan page. Check them out when in Benidorm, I recommend the place to anyone!
As for footballer Ferenc Puskás, here's the Puskas.com official site.
