Plaza Doctor Balmis and the Ghosts of Barcelona

December 26, 2014
[...]

A scenic little square in central Alicante - Plaza Doctor Balmis. It came as a surprise - "a little piece of Barcelona", I thought to myself.

A scenic little contained area where you can become a "prisoner" of relaxation.

Sit down and admire the walls around, covered by small pieces of colourful ceramic tiles.

There, I felt like the place was haunted by Gaudí's ghost.

An interesting resemblance - by far, at least - to the Güell Park's terrace. If you haven't see that post, then check it out - here's the one about the Güell Park in Barcelona.
I was there in September 2008. And here I am... in a way... in a similar situation.

...just that this time it happened in the historic centre of warm Alicante...

It felt just a wee-bit as a marshmallow fence with marshmallow benches.

Nicely put-together exactly where I needed it. I was feeling like I'm falling apart after the long exploration.

It's an ingenious idea to have a unique resting place constructed right in the middle of a plaza.

The wave-like shapes, the lack of sharp corners and the surfaces covered with broken chunks of colourful ceramic tiles entail in this serene retreat area.

Kind-of hard couches. Don't know whether cats would love these...
